pyVideoTrans Software License and Service Agreement

Welcome to pyVideoTrans (hereinafter referred to as "the Software")! This Software is a free, open-source local video translation and voice transcription tool. Before installing, copying, or using the Software in any way, you must carefully read and fully understand all the terms of this Agreement.
Your act of installing, copying, downloading, or using the Software in any form signifies that you have read, understood, and unconditionally accepted all the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree with any part of this Agreement, please immediately cease using the Software and delete it completely from your device.
1. License Grant and Software Nature
- Open Source and Free: This Software is a free program released under the GPL-v3 open-source license. You can obtain the source code and the Windows pre-packaged version from official channels (
https://github.com/jianchang512/pyvideotrans) or the documentation site (https://pyvideotrans.com). - Prohibition of Commercial Sale: The developer has not authorized any entity or individual to sell this Software. Any act of obtaining the Software through paid channels is unrelated to the developer, and the developer assumes no responsibility for this.
- Important Reminder: Third-party APIs require you to provide your own account and key (stored locally only). Any resulting fees are charged by the third party and are unrelated to the developer. The developer only provides the API integration technical specifications within the software. Please review the respective API agreements to confirm commercial licenses and fee standards.
2. Data Privacy
- Local Operation: The core functions of this Software run entirely on your local computer and do not collect or upload any of your personal information, video files, or operational data to the developer's servers.
- Third-Party Services: When you choose to use integrated third-party API services (such as Microsoft Azure, OpenAI, Edge TTS, etc.), the relevant data will be sent directly from your computer to the respective third-party service provider. Your data processing will be subject to that third-party provider's privacy policy and terms of use. The developer is not involved in this process and assumes no responsibility for the data security or privacy breaches of third-party services.
- Version Updates and Error Reporting: The software obtains the latest version number via the static file at
https://pyvideotrans.com/version.json;
When you click the "Report Error" button in the software, it opens the error submission pagehttps://bbs.pyvideotrans.com/postand displays the error information. On that page, you still need to click the "Publish" button again to submit the error information to the developer. Otherwise, the error information will only remain locally and in your browser cache and will not be submitted.
3. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.
- No Warranty: The developer does not warrant that the Software will meet all your requirements or that its operation will be uninterrupted or error-free. You assume all risks associated with the use of the Software.
- Limitation of Liability: IN NO EVENT, UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE), SHALL THE DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE. This includes, but is not limited to: data loss, file corruption, loss of profits, business interruption, computer failure, or any other commercial damage or loss, even if the developer has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
- User Responsibility: You are solely responsible for all content processed through this Software. You must ensure you have the legal rights to process such content and comply with all applicable laws and regulations in your region and the People's Republic of China, including but not limited to copyright and intellectual property laws. You shall bear all legal consequences resulting from any illegal use of the Software.
4. Your Obligations
- Data Backup: Software defects or improper operation may lead to data loss or file corruption. You have the absolute responsibility to fully back up your original files and important data before using this Software to process any critical files.
- Legal Use: You promise not to use the Software for any illegal activities, including but not limited to infringing on others' copyrights or disseminating illegal information.
5. Other Terms
- Agreement Modification: The developer reserves the right to modify the terms of this Agreement at any time. The modified agreement will be published on official channels without further notice. Your continued use of the Software will be deemed as acceptance of the modified agreement.
- Final Interpretation Right: To the maximum extent permitted by law, the final right to interpret this Agreement belongs to the developer of this Software.
If you have read and agree to all the above terms, please begin using the Software. Otherwise, please delete the Software.
